Gateway to Music
On Thursday 11 March 2010, the Jack Petchey Foundation celebrated 10 years of supporting young people with a very special music event at Sadler’s Wells Theatre – “Gateway to Music”.
“Gateway to Music” came about as a unique collaboration between Music Services from the ten London Olympic host and Gateway Boroughs: Greenwich, Redbridge, Lewisham, Newham, Hackney, Waltham Forest, Tower Hamlets, Havering, Bexley and Barking and Dagenham.
The event not only provided young people a fantastic opportunity to perform in one of the UK’s most prestigious venues -Sadler's Wells Theatre - but was also a chance to showcase the talent, diversity, commitment and skill of the Music Services within those Boroughs. It is the first time they have collaborated to produce an event of this kind.
The evening, hosted by former Brookside actress Claire Sweeney, was based around the theme of ENDEAVOUR and featured a mix of music and song including Western classical, choral, urban, samba, steelpans and percussion. The climax of the night was a specially commissioned piece involving over 350 young performers onstage!
