JackPetchey

Georgia Saunders

Georgia was nominated by her peers for  a Jack Petchey Award at St. Martin's School Brentwood because of her ability to give 100% to her school work coupled with success in after school activities and charity work.

Georgia is achieving above average grades in all subjects and has been presented with a Year 7 award for Science. She has represented her school at netball playing for both A & B teams where she has been nominated ‘Player of the Match’ on three separate occasions this season. Whenever possible she sings with the school Pop Vocal Group because singing is one of her passions as is being part of the School Choir. In 2010 and 2011, she was chosen by her school choir teacher at that time to sing at the O2 Arena at the ‘Voice in a Million’ concert.

She is a green belt at ju-jitsu and recently won a silver medal at her first tournament held in Epping. She is an active member of the Girl Guides taking part in as many outdoor camps as her schedule allows. Being a member of the Blackmore Players Youth Drama Group has given her the opportunity to perform songs, dance routines and a solo poetry recital for the general public. She has often been asked by the Reverend to accompany her sister on the recorder at St. Laurence Church, Blackmore, Essex. She also enjoys helping out at her Parish Council’s Pensioners’ Christmas Lunch where in 2010 she and her sister performed a ‘Pearly King and Queen’ routine and in 2011 performed a selection of ABBA songs.

At weekends and during school holidays she gets up around 6.30 a.m. and can be found at Ashwells Kennels (Retired Greyhound Trust) where she is involved in exercising the dogs and helping with grooming and cleaning out. Also, for a number of years she has adopted various animals at the Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary and assists in raising money or donating gifts for that charity.

All in all, Georgia has proved herself to be a talented all rounder successfully devoting her time to her education, school activities and charity work.

Georgia chose to spend her £200 grant within the P.E. department to purchase additional netball kit and equipment.

When asked about her award experience, Georgia told us:

"Receiving the Achievement Award was a very special night. I think it is very good that young people are being encouraged and recognised for trying their best".
