Doctor Who teen actress wins award

Ellis George, 16, from Barking has won a Jack Petchey Achievement Award following her five year commitment to the ‘Young and Talented’ theatre school.

“Ellis has an extremely positive and proactive approach to life,” says Andreea Ioana Urzica, Y&T’s Jack Petchey coordinator. “She is always up for a challenge and motivates and inspires other students.”

In addition to her work with Young and Talented, Ellis’ acting abilities have been recognised through her winning a regular role on hit show Doctor Who. “The most enjoyable part was being on set with the cast and crew,” she says. “They make it so easy to work because there’s always something funny happening.”

The Barking Abbey School student clearly has big dreams: “I plan to attend a drama school and continue my acting career,” she says. “I like it when opportunities arise which enable me to learn from different people in the industry'

“My family will know how much the Jack Petchey Achievement Award means to me, as every year they would see my disappointment when I did not get it. I was very happy to win!”

Ellis decided to use the £200 grant that comes with the Achievement Award on costumes for her group of 20 students to wear for Y&T's 10th Anniversary Gala. “The costumes suit Ellis's funky cutting edge style and her love for footwear,” says Andreea.
