FS Kelly Peters - LA 1227 Squadron ATC, Sidcup

Sidcup Flight Sergeant inspired cadets

‘Inspiring’ Flight Sergeant Kelly Peters was recognised for her outstanding leadership skills and her ability to guide young people at 1227 Squadron ATC in Sidcup.

She has been a huge factor in motivating the cadets get out of their comfort zones, try new activites and raise their aspirations to achieve more.

Air Cadet George Richard said, “When I first joined the squadron, I was really nervous about how strict and serious it would be but FS Peters really helped me and the other new recruits through our first few months. She always lit up the room with her positive vibe!”

FS Peters led the Sidcup Cadets on a training camp to RAF St Mawgan located 5 miles north of Newquay last year, and according to Air Cadet Richard, “wouldn’t let a single cadet out of doing any activity without giving it a great go!”

He added, “I probably wouldn’t have gone on the camp, let alone do surfing, coasteering and rock climbing if it wasn’t for FS Peters.”

On receivng the award, Flight Sergeant Peters said, “Getting nominated by my cadets for the award means a lot to me. It has shown me how my own enthusiasm can raise the aspirations of the cadets and encourage them to reach their goals.”

Winning the award enables the Squadron to apply for a Jack Petchey Small Grant, which FS Peters hopes to spend on further training aids for the cadets.
