Passmores Futsal Club make it to national grand finals with help from Jack Petchey Grant!

Passmores Academy’s Under-14 Boys Futsal Team have made it to the National Futsal Finals after being crowned East Regional Champions earlier in June. Their team was helped on their way to success by a £750 Small Grant from the Jack Petchey Foundation. This was used to buy new futsal equipment allowing more students to take part and helping them to develop their skills.

Passmores was able to apply for the Small Grant after its students nominated Jackie Montgomery for a Jack Petchey Foundation Leader Award. These special awards are given to adult leaders who have demonstrated, in an outstanding way, an ability to motivate young people. Jackie is described as someone who always goes the extra mile to make new staff or students feel incredibly welcome. On many occasions you will see her sat down with students who may be distressed, making sure that they are alright. She puts smiles back on people’s faces and was called 'a second mum' to staff and students alike.

Jackie proposed some ideas on how to use the money which the school council then discussed. The Student Council unanimously decided to use the grant for a Futsal Project. Futsal is a format of five-a-side football which is played indoors. The ball is smaller and harder, which means the player must use their skill rather than the ball’s bounce to propel it. As a small sided game, players are constantly in a position in which they will receive or play the ball.

The school used the grant to buy four foldable goals, ten futsal balls and marker cones. The game has proved to be very popular with the students and the Passmores Futsal Team has improved in leaps and bounds since getting the new equipment. Having won the East Regional Futsal Finals on Sunday 4th June at the Copper Box Arena they have advanced to the National Futsal Finals, which will take place on Saturday 24th June in Birmingham.

The Jack Petchey Foundation wants to wish the Passmores team all the best for the final and is delighted that their funding, available thanks to Jackie’s hard work, has helped them on their way to success!
