Gateway to Music (G2M) has now become the common joint name for the group of ten music services working together, funded by the Jack Petchey Foundation.
Members of ‘G2M’ are: Barking and Dagenham; Bexley; Greenwich; Hackney; Havering; Lewisham; Newham; Tower Hamlets; Redbridge and Walthamstow. Between them they teach some 50,000 pupils every week in schools, many of these pupils are also members of the wide range of bands, choirs, orchestras and other ensembles that rehearse regularly. Performance is one of the joys of being a musician, and this concert will be no exception.
The second performance of ‘G2M’ took place at IndigO2 at The O2. Over 300 young people took part in a concert celebrating the rich diversity of London’s musical and cultural life. It was a concert like no other – with an exciting mix of bands, orchestra and voice. We saw, and heard, the true talent and spirit of the young people of London. The evening culminated in a performance of a specially commissioned piece involving all 300 young people.
The Jack Petchey Foundation is delighted to support ‘G2M’ offering young musicians the chance to collaborate with their peers and professional tutors, as well as the opportunity to perform in some fantastic surroundings.
Plans for the next ‘G2M adventure are well underway and will be published when finalised.
