The Jack Petchey Foundation is offering subsidies for schools and colleges in London and Essex hoping to sign up to the Future First programme.

Future First is a national education charity that helps state schools to build alumni communities. Former students return to their old schools as career and education role models, mentors, work experience hosts, governors, fundraisers and more. They already work with over 10% of schools up and down the country. Now the Jack Petchey Foundation is helping more schools to work with them too.

By signing up to Future First, you’ll be joining a national movement to provide all young people with role models. Future First will work with you to build a thriving community that will help you do even more for your students. You will have access to:

  • A secure online database to help you manage your network.
  • An expert Alumni Officer, detailed guidance, lesson plans, resources.
  • A network of schools working together to share ideas and build communities of role models for their students.

We know that access to relatable role models is crucial for a young person’s development.  Too many young people, particularly from the poorest backgrounds, do not have access to such role models that prepare them for the world of work or learning beyond school.

Having grown up in the same area and sat in the same classrooms, they can show students that ‘people like me’ can succeed in life.

Over 90% of teachers from Future First schools tell us that the work they did with alumni increased students’ knowledge about career and education pathways and that hearing from alumni improved their ability to make informed decisions about their future.

“Being part of Future First has brought so many benefits to Lammas School. We have seen our network grow so much over the last few years and this has really helped to inspire our younger students to study hard and to focus on their fiuture aspirations.”
