Major Programmes
Introduction
- In addition to normal Project Grants the Jack Petchey Foundation also gives "major grants" that benefit large numbers of young people ~ usually across several boroughs or throughout the Jack Petchey geographical catchment area of London and Essex.
The Petchey Academy 
- Jack Petchey Foundation is sponsoring a new secondary school in Hackney under the government academy programme. This opened in temporary accommodation in September 2006 and has now opened in the main building this September 2007. Summer Uni London
- The Jack Petchey Foundation has allocated £1,089,000 to develop Summer Uni programmes in all the London boroughs. Summer Uni programmes will offer a broad range of activities during the summer months for 11 ~ 19 year olds. Each London borough can apply for a grant of £33,000 to develop their Summer University programme if certain conditions are met. This is a joint initiative between London Challenge, local authorities and the Jack Petchey Foundation.

Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge!

Over 10,000 Year 10 students in London’s state secondary schools have taken part in the Jack Petchey Foundation “Speak Out” Challenge!, a brand new public speaking initiative rolled out in 432 schools across 32 London Boroughs.

Six hours of public speaking training was given to 25 Year 10 pupils in each school; by SpeakersBank, part of the Speakers Trust charity. Every participant entered the Jack Petchey Foundation “Speak Out” Challenge! This was followed by local borough-wide finals and a grand final challenge held in London on 5 July 2007.

The winning speaker, Francis Uyewole, will receive a first prize of a holiday for four to Portugal and a further £3,000 donated to his school, Archbishop Tenison's Church of England School, in the London Borough of Lambeth. Certificates of achievement were awarded to all the students. This challenge is the biggest public speaking event in Europe with prizes totalling £15,000, making it the highest award ever for public speaking.

Step into Dance!

The Jack Petchey Step into Dance programme in partnership with the Royal Academy of Dance is a pilot programme where dance classes are offered to all secondary schools in the London boroughs of: Haringey, Islington, Camden & Enfield. It is delivered by the Royal Academy of Dance teachers and funded by the Jack Petchey Foundation. Both organisations are committed to creating opportunities for young people and widening participation to dance within safe and inclusive learning environments. Specialist Schools Status
- Secondary schools participating in the Achievement Award Scheme consistently well are eligible to apply for further funding towards their specialist school bid. To date JPF has supported over 60 schools in London and Essex with grants of between £10,000 ~ £12,500 each.
Out of School Hours Learning
- The Foundation has established relationships with a number of London boroughs to sponsor Out of School Hours programmes (sometimes called Study Support). Tower Hamlets and Barking & Dagenham have already received over £1 million in support.

Overseas Gap Year Programmes 
- JPF has funded a number of programmes that enable young people to participate in work schemes overseas. Participating organisations include Fulcrum Challenge, Raleigh International & Global Activities Project. If schools or youth clubs wish to arrange their own programmes that benefit other people, sponsorship may be available.
Yearbooks/School Planners

- School yearbooks are an increasingly popular way of creating an archive of school life. Schools successfully participating in the Achievement Award Scheme can receive up to £600 towards printing costs.
- The Foundation has also teamed up with the School Planner Company to offer exclusive subsidies on school planners of up to £1,000 to schools successfully participating in the Achievement Award Scheme.

Young Musicians

- JPF is in discussions with a number of borough music services to sponsor and develop music programmes in London boroughs. To date JPF has sponsored 3 annual Newham Youth Orchestra concerts in liaison with Newham Music Trust.

YMCA George Williams College 
- This college is one of the leading colleges in London providing training for youth leaders and community leaders. The Jack Petchey Foundation has given grants totalling over £200,000 to support these youth training programmes and provide bursaries for those interested in doing a youth work qualification. Uniformed Youth Organisations

- Most uniformed organisations (including Volunteer Police Cadets, Scouts, Guides, Army/Sea and Air Cadets) participate in the JPF Achievement Award Scheme.
"Learn To Earn"
