In the summer of 2014, Media Trust and Cineworld launched a nationwide competition in search of the UK’s brightest young filmmaker. With support from the Jack Petchey Foundation and endorsed by Dame Judi Dench, Dream to Screen offered talented filmmakers the chance to see their short film shown in cinemas across the UK. Judged by a star-studded panel including Dame Helen Mirren, five finalists were mentored by some of the industry’s best producers and directors.Dame Helen Mirren said: “Dream to Screen has been an exciting opportunity for young people to showcase their ideas, creativity and brilliance. The competition has given aspiring UK talent access to some of the most respected experts in the film industry. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Sarah Grant, 24, was announced the winner of Dream to Screen in October 2014 at an awards ceremony in London. As well as seeing her winning film ‘The Cyclist’ showcased in Cineworld cinemas nationwide, she also won an all-expenses paid trip to LA to learn from Hollywood’s leading talent provided by 20th Century Fox. Commenting on her accomplishment, Sarah Grant, said“Winning Dream To Screen has been a dream come true.When I thought of my life ten years from now, I wouldn’t evenbe close to being where I am today. Media Trust,The Jack Petchey Foundation and Cineworld have just taken me out of my life and boosted me twenty years into the future.”
