12 year old George Riddles from Coulson in Surrey won an Achievement Award after smashing a fundraising target by 500%!
Outdoor pursuit’s enthusiast George climbed Ben Nevis in the summer and managed to raise over £500 for Cancer Research UK.
George, who attends Oasis Academy Coulson, scaled the highest mountain in the British Isles in just over eight hours, and was accompanied by his Grandfather, uncles and cousins.
He said, “Cancer Research is a cause that is close to my heart because I have lost close family members to this nasty disease and wanted to raise as much money as possible to help find a cure. My original target was £100, so I was delighted to beat this by so much!”
George, who put the £200 he recieved from the Foundation towards his school’s P.E. department, wants to go to university to study law in the future and said that winning the Achievement Award has given him the further motivation he needs to reach his goals.
“Winning the award has impacted the choices I make in my life. Before it was a case of ‘I can’t do that so I won’t try’, whereas now I believe there is no such thing as 'can’t'. If you set your mind to something you will achieve what you set out to do, and if you can’t manage it, at least you tried.”
