Michael Oku-Ampofu - St Bonaventure's School

Michael goes extra mile to help fellow pupils!

15 year old Michael Oku-Ampofu won a Jack Petchey Achievement Award for his exceptional performances on the athletics field. Michael, who is currently in Year 10 at St Bonaventure’s School, was named as the spring recipient of the award at the Forest Gate school.

Michael is a member of the Newham and Essex Beagles and is currently ranked 4th in the UK in the Under-17 age bracket for long jump and fifth for long jump.

The talented teenager also recently completed the London Mini Marathon – the official British Athletics race for young athletes aged 11 to 17.

St Bonaventure’s headteacher Paul Halliwell praised Michael’s sporting achievements and his dedication to supporting his fellow students in their sporting endeavours.

"Mike is a genuinely lovely lad and is liked by his peers and teachers who say his quiet confidence and pleasant manner as well as his talent on the track make him a worthy winner of this award.

He goes that extra mile to help younger students develop their PE skills and is always smiling and is a model student."

Epitomizing his support for other young athletes, Michael will buy a number of pairs of running spikes for the P.E. department at St Bons with the £200 he receives for winning the Achievement Award.
