Fast and furious was the name of the game as the third Jack Petchey London Schools’ Team Finals culminated at the University of East London on Saturday 18th January. The day was frantic to say the least, as youngsters from across London battled it out for the title of Team Champions in their age group, which ranged from U11s to U19s.
It was a particularly good day for London Academy who secured three titles; the Under-16 Girls, Under-16 Boys and the Under-13 Boys. The Academy’s Under-19 Boys side also made the final and were narrowly beaten by the team from Harefield in one of the matches of the day.
Fox Primary School pupils were the standout performers in the Under-11 competitions, securing the girls title while the boys finished runners up to St Mary Magdalene Academy.
Aside from the matches, there was a ‘beat the robot’ competition run by ETTA Coaches Jane Barella and Tom Browne while players also had a chance to battle it out with their friends on the table tennis Xbox Kinect game. Youngsters also had the opportunity to face Paralympian David Wetherill in a competition where players had to return as many of his serves as possible.
Jack Petchey CBE himself arrived to catch the final matches and congratulate the winners and runners up on their success. Other VIPs on hand to present the awards included Young Mayor for Newham Jonathan Bennett, the CEO of ETTA Sara Sutcliffe and Jack Petchey Foundation Director Ron Mills.
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the day and we look forward to seeing a lot of you for the individual championships which begin in February!
