The Jack Petchey London School’s Table Tennis Championships team qualifying came to a conclusion this week, with the final qualifying event for teams from schools in East London.
Groups from Barking & Dagenham, Bexley, the City of London, Greenwich, Hackney, Havering, Lewisham, Newham, Redbridge and Tower Hamlets battled it out for a place in the finals on the 18th January. As with all the London finals, there was some real quality on show, and a lot of passion from all the teams.
The competition is split into eight categories, with U19, U16, U13 and U11 classifications for both boys and girls. In total there are five regional finals held throughout November and December for schools from North, East South, West and Central London. The winners and runners-up from each competition advance to the finals, which will be held at the University of East London.
Congratulations to all the competitors who have taken part in the team championships this year, and good luck to all of those who have made it through to the finals!
For those teams who didn’t make it through this time, qualifying heats for the individual competition commences at the end of January, with the final taking place in June. To find out about a qualifier near you visit www.londonschoolstabletennis.co.uk/competitions
The Jack Petchey London’s School Table Tennis Championships is a prestigious event aimed at increasing participation and awareness of tennis table in London schools. As well as running competitions, the Foundation runs a table tennis table donation scheme for schools across London. Applications for tables will be open again in the spring of 2014!
In the meantime, table tennis rackets make great stocking fillers…
