Transforming Outdoor Spaces: Schools Participating in ‘Planting in the Playground’ Program!

In honour of Love Parks Week, we want to highlight schools that have participated in Jack Petchey’s and London Children’s Flower Society’s partnership program called “Planting in the Playground”. This program provided participating schools with planting and gardening tools, enabling them to transform their outdoor spaces into vibrant green areas. Let’s take a closer look at some of these highlights!

1.Paddock School

One particular school has recently come to our attention – Paddock School. The lead teaching assistant has organised a weekly gardening group where students get to plant, water, and weed the garden. Thanks to this hands-on experience, students are becoming more independent and learning how to retrieve the necessary tools for the job. The garden also serves as a peaceful space for students to regulate themselves, which is very beneficial.

2.Ursuline Academy Ilford

Among the many schools out there, Ursuline Academy Ilford is truly exceptional. Not only has their VegTrug made incredible strides, but the courtyard is also home to an abundance of gorgeous wildflowers and spinach. The Laudato Si Committee has done an excellent job of maintaining the plants and crops, and they’ve even painted the trellises and pots to perfection!

3.St Thomas More Catholic Comprehensive School

Next, we have St Thomas More Catholic Comprehensive School, which has also made their green space more blooming! The programme had a positive effect on everyone involved, including one grateful student who expressed their appreciation for the new equipment! “The equipment you gave us is very beneficial, and I am very grateful. I love gardening club for about 2 years. I also sometimes join my mum in a commitment gardening near my house. Thank you very much for the equipment. I am very grateful, and it will definitely benefit St Thomas More and the community.”

4. All Saints Catholic School

Finally, we have All Saints Catholic School. The front lawn of the school flourished with the assistance of Year 11!
