Leader Award FAQs
Eligibility
A Leader Award can be given to any adult who has made a positive difference to young people in your organisation. This could include youth workers, teachers, coaches, volunteers, instructors, administrators, support staff or group leaders.
The Leader Award winner must be aged 18 or over at the time of nomination.
Yes. Someone can receive both an Achievement Award and a Leader Award. However, we encourage organisations to use the awards to recognise a range of individuals and avoid awarding both to the same person within the same period wherever possible.
The Leader Award application must be submitted by your organisation’s Achievement Award Coordinator through the JPF Community Area. We encourage young people and other adults within the organisation to be involved in identifying and selecting the nominee.
The nominee must have worked or volunteered with your organisation for at least 12 months before they can be nominated for a Leader Award.
No. Each Leader Award application must name a single winner. Joint nominations or group nominations are not eligible.
Organisations can only submit one Leader Award application per Achievement Award Scheme each calendar year. If your organisation runs more than one scheme, you may be able to submit a Leader Award application for each scheme.
An Achievement Award Coordinator can be nominated for a Leader Award if they meet the eligibility criteria. Please note they cannot nominate themselves. In this situation, we recommend that another appropriate person within the organisation completes and submits the application on their behalf.
Yes. If your organisation wishes to nominate an individual that sadly passed away before they had the opportunity to be awarded a Leader Award, you are welcome to nominate them posthumously to recognise and celebrate the lasting impact they had on the young people and organisation they supported. Please make us aware that the nomination is posthumous in your application and we will work with you to ensure that the celebration of their achievement is managed sensitively.
A person can only receive one Leader Award from the same organisation. If they have already received a Leader Award from your organisation, please nominate someone else.
Yes. Someone who has previously received a Leader Award at another organisation can receive a Leader Award again if they meet the eligibility criteria at their current organisation.
You can apply for a Leader Award at any time during the calendar year.
Once your organisation has chosen who they would like to recognise, your Achievement Award Coordinator can submit a Leader Award application through the JPF Community Area.
Yes. You can apply for a Leader Award at any time during the year. If you’d like your nominee to attend an upcoming Jack Petchey Awards Event, please make sure you submit your application before the event attendance deadline for your local event so that, if approved, they can be invited to attend.
After you apply
We aim to make a decision on Leader Award applications within 28 working days of submission.
Leader Award winners are invited to attend a Jack Petchey Achievement Award Event alongside your Achievement Award winners, where they will be invited on stage to receive their framed certificate and special medallion from the attending VIP. During this moment they will hear the reason they were nominated by your organisation and have professional photographs taken individually and with their group. We would also encourage you to share the news of their award with your own organisation, as appropriate.
Please wait until you have received confirmation that the Leader Award application has been approved before informing and announcing the winner. This helps to avoid any disappointment if we need to request further information or the application is not approved.
No. A Leader Award and a Leader Award Grant are two separate parts of the programme. Once a Leader Award has been approved, the connected Leader Award Grant application form will be made available in the JPF Community Area, and your organisation will have up to six months to apply for the Leader Award Grant to support a project that benefits young people. We are unable to offer extensions to the deadline, so please apply in good time!
The Leader Award recognises an adult who has made a positive difference to young people in their organisation with an award. The Leader Award Grant is separate funding of up to £1,000 that organisations can apply for after a Leader Award has been approved to support a project that benefits young people.
