Leader Award Grant FAQs
Eligibility
Once your Leader Award has been approved, you can apply for a Leader Award Grant within the following six months.
Once your Leader Award has been approved, your Achievement Award Coordinator can apply for a Leader Award Grant through the JPF Community Area.
Unfortunately, if the 6-month deadline is missed, the organisation will no longer be able to apply for a grant linked to that award and the application will not be available in the JPF Community Area. We would encourage you not to leave your application to the last minute!
You can still apply for a Leader Award Grant if the application is submitted within six months of the Leader Award being approved. If you didn’t have the opportunity to discuss project ideas with the Leader Award winner before they left, we encourage you to think about the type of project they would have wanted to support and how it could benefit young people in your organisation.
Planning Your Project
That’s fine. The Leader Award Grant can contribute up to £1,000 towards your project, but the total project cost can be up to £5,000. If your project costs more than £1,000, you’ll need to let us know how the remaining costs will be funded. If your total project cost is more than £5,000, please speak to your Grants Officer for advice.
No. Leader Award Grants cannot be used to fund projects that have already started or been completed. It also cannot be used to fund costs already incurred. Yes. Leader Award Grants can support trips both within and outside of the UK where they provide a meaningful benefit to young people.
After You Apply
We aim to make a decision on Leader Award Grant applications within eight weeks of receiving your application.
If your project plans change after your Leader Award Grant has been approved, please contact your Grants Officer before making any changes. We’ll discuss the changes with you and advise whether they can be approved.
If your project is delayed, please let us know as soon as possible. We can discuss the situation with you and advise on any changes that may be needed.
Reporting and Managing Your Grant
We aim to keep the reporting requirements for Leader Award Grants as light touch as possible. Once your project has finished, we’ll ask you to complete a short report to confirm that the grant was spent as agreed and tell us how the how the project went, the number of young people that benefited, the difference it made and any quotes or comments from the young people. The report deadline will be included in the grant offer letter, and the report will show as a Due Requirement in the JPF Community Area. Please note, if your organisation does not submit a report, it will not be permitted to apply for future Leader Award Grant.
If your project ends up costing less than expected, please let us know. We’ll discuss the situation with you and advise on the appropriate next steps for any unspent funding.
Yes. While you do not need to submit receipts with your Leader Award Grant report, we ask that you keep copies of all receipts. We reserve the right to request receipts at any point and do carry out spot checking as part of our fraud management processes. We may also request to see evidence of project expenditure in order to approve your Leader Award Grant report or as part of a planned visit to your organisation.
We love seeing photos from Leader Award Grant projects! They help bring your project to life and show the difference the grant has made for young people. Photos aren’t required when submitting the grant report, but we’d be delighted to see them if you’re able to share them. Often the best Leader Award Grant projects are shared as case studies by the Jack Petchey Foundation to inspire others, so feel encouraged to show off! Please ensure you have consent from young people to share their images with us or choose images where the young people aren’t identifiable.
