Sharon Adesola David was awarded the Jack Petchey Achievement Award in recognition of her leadership qualities, commitment to student voice, and contribution to fostering a more inclusive college community.
At the time of her nomination, Sharon was an active member of the Student Council and served as a Chaplaincy Tutor Representative. In these roles, she worked to represent student perspectives and strengthen communication between students and staff, with a particular focus on fairness, inclusion, and equality within the college environment. She played an engaged role in supporting dialogue around these issues during a period of heightened global attention on racial equality and social justice.
The award funding was allocated towards hosting a guest speaker event on racial equality, an initiative Sharon pioneered, aimed at encouraging meaningful discussion and reflection among students on issues of identity, equity, and community responsibility.
Since receiving the award, Sharon has continued to develop her leadership journey across education, culture, and international engagement. At King’s College London, she went on to hold multiple leadership positions, including President of the Language Resource Centre, where she studied Mandarin, leading initiatives focused on cultural exchange, language learning, and widening participation in higher education. She has also contributed to student-led and research-focused organisations including think tank initiatives, supporting events and discussions on global political and economic issues.
Sharon has now relocated to Shanghai, where she works as a consultant supporting brands in entering and expanding in China. In this role, she continues to prioritise engagement with diverse communities and cultural perspectives, helping organisations better understand and access the Chinese market in a way that is locally informed and culturally relevant.
Her journey reflects an ongoing commitment to leadership, cross-cultural understanding, and creating access to opportunity across education, culture, and international business.
