Mrs McQueen’s Care Goes Beyond the Canteen

Mrs McQueen’s Care Goes Beyond the Canteen

The Leader Award is all about recognising the adults who make a difference behind the scenes. Whether through encouragement, care, guidance or simply being there when needed, these individuals play an important role in helping young people to thrive.

Nominated by her school community in Brent for her dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment, we are delighted to celebrate Mrs McQueen as a Jack Petchey Leader Award winner.

A highly valued member of the school’s canteen staff, Mrs McQueen leaves a lasting and positive impression on everyone she meets.  In her role, she consistently exemplifies excellence in service, greeting every student, colleague, and visitor with a welcoming smile and a kind word. Her attentiveness and personal touch create an atmosphere of genuine care and inclusion within the school dining environment.

Beyond her daily responsibilities, Mrs McQueen demonstrates an exceptional commitment to the nutritional and emotional wellbeing of students and staff. Her passion for food and nutrition is reflected in the diverse, wholesome and thoughtfully balanced meals she helps to prepare, ensuring a wide range of dietary requirements and preferences are catered for. She takes great pride in maintaining high standards of quality and variety so that every member of the school community feels nourished and valued.

Her generosity and compassion extend far beyond the canteen. Known for her charitable nature, Mrs McQueen regularly volunteers her time and expertise for school events and wider community initiatives. Quietly and without seeking recognition, she works to ensure that no student or local resident faces hunger and often provides discreet support to those in need.

After receiving her Leader Award certificate and medallion, Mrs McQueen said:

“I absolutely enjoy working with children and I don’t think any child should go hungry. I will always do my best to educate their palate as well as their minds.”

Through her dedication, empathy, and professionalism, Mrs McQueen embodies the very best qualities of the school community. Her tireless efforts, positive attitude, and genuine care make her not only an indispensable member of staff but also a source of inspiration and kindness to all who know her.

Following her award, Mrs McQueen took the next step by using her Leader Award Grant to upgrade the music club with new, high-quality speakers. This helped elevate rehearsals and performances while boosting students’ confidence on stage.

Congratulations, Mrs McQueen, on receiving a Jack Petchey Foundation Leader Award, and thank you for the difference you make to the lives of young people every day.
