Scouting Group visits their twinned friends in Holland after 50 years of friendship

4th Worcester Park Scouting Group received a Leader Award Grant from the Jack Petchey Foundation to take a group of Scouts and Guides on an international trip to the Scout group in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands that they are twinned with.

This twinning has resulted in a friendship between the two groups that is 50 years in the making.

While in Holland, the Scouts and Guides took part in a wide range of activities that developed team, social, bush craft, and sporting skills. They went out on a high ropes course where they spent the whole day learning how to climb and work together whilst balancing on the top of the tree line. The scouts also took part in swimming at a local pool, cycling through the forests, and spent the day at a monkey zoo where they could meet the animals and learn about environmental issues facing these animals.

The young people also had to look after themselves, put up tents and work together to provide food and serving for the whole camp.

The Scouts and Guides really enjoyed their trip to Holland, so much so that the group have agreed to return in three years to continue their international links.

The Dutch Scout Group will be visiting 4th Worcester Park in summer 2020. All of the participants have spoken about how they have enjoyed the experience. Many of the Scouts completed a variety of badge qualifications which they have been awarded. It has also allowed six of the Scouts to achieve the Chief Scouts Gold Badge which is the highest award a Scout can get.
