St Mary’s Youth Club build friendships at residential trip!

Young people from St Mary’s Youth Club recently got the chance to go on a fun trip to Kingswood Grosvenor Hall, Kent. This gave them a chance to all go on a trip outside of London, which many of the young people had never done before. The trip was funded by a Leader Award Grant from the Jack Petchey Foundation.

This trip, for some of the young people, was the first time they had been away from home and travelled outside of the city. It was a brilliant chance for them to experience life away from home, and take part in new activities.

The leaders commented on how inspiring it was to see how relationships forged between the young people, they worked well as a team, encouraging and supporting each other in the challenges throughout the weekend.

They all came back with a strong sense of community and had built brilliant friendships between each other. They no longer acted like individuals, but rather a collective youth club with a shared interest.

The club commented how, without the Small Grant from the Jack Petchey Foundation, the trip may not have been feasible for many of the young people as they could not afford the cost of a residential trip away. The grant gave them the chance to go away and experience new activities, while having valuable teamwork building opportunities too.

One young person said: “It was great to form new friendship and do something away from the youth club.”
