Frequently Asked Questions for Leader Award Grants
The Leader Award Grant programme allows organisations that are successfully running the Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme to apply for a grant of up to £1000 to further enhance their work with young people.
Schools and organisations can invest the money in something special that they would not usually have the funds for. This might be specialist equipment for a sports team or a fun trip out for the whole class! Schools and organisations can use the grant in whatever way they know would benefit young people most.
You can apply through our Community. For more information on the application information required, visit our Coordinators’ Area.
When does the Leader Award Grant Fund open?
Once you have successfully run the Achievement Award Scheme for one full grant period you will become eligible to apply for one Leader Award per scheme every calendar year by submitting your nomination via the Community Area.
Every successful Leader Award winner is eligible to apply for a Leader Award Grant of up to £1000 any time within the calendar year. You are entitled to award one Leader Award and one subsequent Leader Award Grant per calendar year.

How much can I apply for with the Leader Award Grant?
You can apply for a grant of up to £1000 (although the overall project must not exceed £5000). If your project is less than £1000, you can apply for the full amount of your project.
My project costs less than £1000, so can I add additional items to make up the £1000 that is available?
We want to fund as many applications as possible, therefore we are unlikely to fund items that appear to be additional or do not relate to the project.
My project comes to more than £5000, can I still apply?
Unfortunately we can only fund projects that cost less than £5000. However if there is an element of your project that is under £5000, you could apply for just this part.
What can I apply for?
You can apply for items such as equipment, resources, trips, additional items of kit, specialist tuition or sessions.
(Please note that items/trips/projects applied for cannot be purchased/take place or start before the grant offer has been accepted.)
What can’t I apply for?
We are unable to fund illegal or items that are illicit such as alcohol and cigarettes. In addition we will not fund activities that promote religious or political beliefs. Please demonstrate within the application the benefit that your request will have upon the organisation and young people.
Will I receive the full amount I have requested?
The Jack Petchey Foundation wants to fund as many applications as possible. However on occasions we are unable to fund the full amount requested.
What information do I need to provide?
Please answer all questions on the application form. It is essential that you provide as much information and detail as possible for every question, as this will help us assess your application.
When will I hear if I have been successful?
Applications to the Leader Award Grant will be reviewed on a rolling basis by your Grants Officer. We aim to inform you of an outcome within 8 weeks of submitting the application.
Why might my application be rejected?
The most common reason for rejecting applications is due to applicants not meeting the full eligibility criteria, or a lack of information or detail within the application, and therefore we are unable to assess the benefit that the project has upon the organisation and young people.
If I am successful, when will I be paid?
Once the grant acceptance letter has been returned all payments will be made by BACS.
